Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament

As Andy Burnham continues to give Britain’s support to Donald Trump’s global wars, the public continues to feel the effects. So-called “Iran war inflation” is pushing up energy and household bills in Britain, with the Office for National Statistics noting the largest jump in gas prices since the start of the Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

In the Ukraine war, the British government’s continued strategy of supporting military escalation is making this devastating conflict even more dangerous. Both Ukraine and Russia are using long-range drones to target civilian infrastructure, resulting in greater civilian casualties. Now, British-made drones directly supplied by the government are being used by Ukraine. In response, Russia has stated that there will be ‘consequences’ for British involvement. Talk from General Sir Richard Sherrif of ‘defeating Russia’ is only worsening tensions.

The government’s decision to supply these drones, together with the continued use of British bases in Trump’s war on Iran, risks dragging Britain even deeper into these conflicts – with growing nuclear risks. CND continues to call on the government to focus its efforts instead on de-escalation and dialogue.

On Saturday we were again protesting at RAF Fairford, bringing together hundreds of people from across the country to call for an end to the illegal war on Iran and for Andy Burnham to withdraw permission for the use of the base.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this such a powerful event, including the supporting organisations Stop the War, Iranians against War and Fairford Action.  You can watch a short film on the day on CND’s YouTube channel here, or share on InstagramTikTokBluesky, and X.

Shut down US bases! Kick out Trump’s spy station! Join CND at Menwith Hill, Saturday 24 October

With the campaign to shut down US bases growing, we’re putting the spotlight on RAF Menwith Hill, near Harrogate, in Yorkshire. Menwith Hill is the largest US overseas spy base in the world, capable of monitoring communications globally. The base is also part of the US’s National Missile Defence system. The system is made up of a global network of bases, designed to enable the US to use its nuclear weapons pre-emptively without fear of retaliation.

Join CND, Yorkshire CND and the Menwith Hill Accountability Campaign for this JOIN THE MENWITH HILL DAY OF ACTION

The day will include a public meeting in Harrogate from 12 noon to 2pm. After a break, transport will take everyone to Menwith Hill for a protest at 3pm and return you back to Harrogate at 4pm.

Please note that it is essential that you register in advance, as we need to book transport to and from the base.

Tell Andy Burnham: Stop Arming Israel! National March for Palestine, Saturday 26 September

The Labour Party Conference returns to Liverpool this September and CND will be there to keep up the pressure on Andy Burnham to end Britain’s nuclear expansion and military spending hikes – and to give justice to the nuclear testing veterans.

We’ll also be marching with the Palestine Coalition in Liverpool on the eve of conference.

The situation for those living in Gaza, West Bank, and wider region remains increasingly serious. Ahead of Israeli elections in October, there has been an escalation in violent settler attacks on Palestinian homes and villages as the Israeli government continues to approve funding for more settlement expansion on Palestinian land, illegal under international law. Benjamin Netanyahu continues to flaunt Israel’s obligations agreed in last October’s ceasefire deal, refusing to withdraw troops from Gaza. Meanwhile, the Lebanese government has said that at least 4,348 people have been killed by Israeli troops in the country since March after the start of joint US-Israeli attacks on Iran.

As Andy Burnham prepares for his first party conference as Labour leader and Prime Minister, it’s vital that we keep up the pressure on the government to end arms sales to and imposing sanctions on nuclear-armed Israel. Save the date and join us marching for Palestine in Liverpool.
