France - nuclear waste

We will not capitulate”: 30 years of battle against nuclear waste.
Opponents of radioactive waste meet near Bure during a weekend under high surveillance. It was an opportunity to say no again to Cigeo, whose problems are likely to become the lot of this century. This weekend, in a field in Saint-Amand-sur-Ornain (Meuse), about fifteen kilometres from Bure, we will talk about nuclear waste, we will listen to conferences, concerts, we will watch films and, above all, above all, we will say no.
From 14 to 16 August, the fifth edition of the Bure’lesques brings together opponents of the Cigeo project, this gigantic facility that the State and the National Agency for the Management of Radioactive Waste (Andra), want to dig 500 metres underground to bury the most dangerous radioactive waste produced by the French nuclear fleet. The party will be held under close surveillance. Two orders issued on August 4 by the prefect of the Meuse have established a particularly broad police system: prohibitions on transporting various materials, such as wood, for example, pyrotechnic objects or elements to conceal one’s face, restrictions on alcohol, but also the capture and recording of images by two drones and a helicopter of the gendarmerie.
