In an Op-Ed for SpaceNews, Retired Maj. Gen. Thomas “Tav” Taverney, chairman of the Schriever Chapter of the Air and Space Force Association, focuses heavily on the erosion of traditional advantages in the orbital domain and outlines how the U.S. Space Force must pivot to maintain space superiority. “The Space Force should continue to accelerate responsive launch capabilities, rapid satellite replacement, on-orbit servicing, and software-defined spacecraft capable of receiving continuous upgrades throughout their operational lives,” Taverney writes. “Maintaining space superiority requires more than protecting American satellites. It also demands the ability to deny adversaries the effective use of space when necessary while preserving freedom of action for U.S. and allied forces. Developing resilient architectures, responsive acquisition, and integrated space operations will ensure that the U.S. retains this decisive strategic advantage.”

According to Inside Defense, the Space Development Agency is set to resume Tranche 1 Transport Layer launches tomorrow following a months-long pause in schedule, according to Director GP Sandhoo. Sandhoo said, “As Tranche 2 satellites get ready for launch, if they are ready to go, we will process them and we’ll get them to orbit. As we get into Tranche 2 launches here in the next eight to 12 months, and we still have some residual Tranche 1 launches, the team that we have at SDA that does that is going to be extremely busy trying to do that coordination but we will work through that.” In comments picked up by Breaking Defense on Tranche 1, Sandhoo said, “We are looking forward to the launch on the on the 16th, and by the end of this launch, we’ll have half our our Transport constellation on orbit. And once you have three planes up, we’re starting to talk real capability for the warfighter — some real time, some real capability — and we plan to start delivering that.”

n an Op-Ed for Dauntless Space, Peter Garretson, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel and space strategist who is now a senior fellow in defense studies at the American Foreign Policy Council, argues, “Securing America’s continued space dominance requires an off-earth industrial capacity investments. The ultimate solution to a nuclear weapon in space will not be found in LEO but instead can be made by capitalizing on ISAM in Cislunar space. In doing so, immediate threats may be mitigated. Such a strategic approach would position the United States for unchallenged dominance in space.”

When we were first came in, our budget was to concentrate on our legacy systems … we have no transitioned to where we are building out our new mission set … that allows us to secure space superiority and to provide critical space capabilities to the Joint Force … we have evolved from enabling the fight to basically being the central nervous system for the Joint Force … every branch depends on us for first strike capability … our congressional support is our oxygen … there’s a vast amount of things that we rely on from Congress.”

According to Fox News, “a new report is urging the administration to expand U.S.–Israel defense cooperation by making Israeli air-defense technology a central component of the Golden Dome, the planned layered missile shield intended to detect, track and intercept ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, hypersonic weapons and drones before they can strike the United States. The report warns that the planned American missile shield could leave U.S. cities, military installations and critical infrastructure exposed to increasingly common drone and cruise-missile threats if Washington directs too much money toward costly space-based systems that could take years to become operational.”

According to The Wall Street Journal, China is rapidly closing the satellite gap with the United States, utilizing advancements in the BeiDou navigation system, laser communications, and Low Earth Orbit constellations to enhance long-range military precision. These developments, including real-time surveillance and counterspace capabilities, are significantly challenging American space power. Clayton Swope, a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said, “Beijing sees space as an arena for geopolitical competition, where the United States is the main competitor. China now can do a lot of what the U.S. can do from space.”

In May, Col Kyle Pumroy, USSF (Ret.) Senior Resident Fellow for Space Studies, Mitchell Institute Spacepower Advantage Center of Excellence, put out the paper, “Military Human Spaceflight: A Key Component to U.S. Space Superiority.” He wrote, “For the U.S. Space Force to successfully adopt an additive mission of putting Guardians in space, it must receive the resourcing, manpower, and authorities to match this increase in mission scope.” He added, “developing the mission of Guardians in space must be an additive function and not compete with resources and competencies needed to develop remote systems to counter Chinese space activities in the near-term. This is a very serious contest with national security implications—and may make the difference in winning or losing a future war.”

Mary Guenther, the Head of Space Policy at PPI, outlines how state and municipal leaders can capture a share of the rapidly growing commercial aerospace market. It serves as a guide for local governments to build sustainable space hubs without overspending. “Governors and mayors across the country would be wise to assess whether their existing space economic development strategy sets their state and the nation up for success,” she writes.
