Stop the War Coalition’s annual conference on Saturday (14 March) was hugely successful. The hall was packed and the speakers and sessions informative. Topics ranged from arms spending to conscription and central to it all was the danger over Iran. The conference ended with a call to build Stop the War locally and nationally.

Throughout the day speaker after speaker told of how we are living through the most dangerous moment since before the founding of StW. The threat of war is both nuclear and global, and wars are spreading at pace.

We had contributions from trade unionists, from a German student organising against conscription and from French MP Jérôme Legavre, who talked about the peace conference we are organising in London in June and the importance of building an international movement.

It was great to see so many supporters keen to oppose war, to build links within the trade union movement and make connections internationally.

Conference passed a number of resolutions which can be found on our website. The resolutions covered defending the right to protest, opposing British foreign policy, the war on Iran, militarisation in the Pacific and supporting building Stop the War.
