Slovakia - Uranium Enrichment

Posted: 17th February 2026

Exclusive: Urenco signs nuclear enrichment deal with Slovakia’s largest

electricity provider. The Urenco Capenhurst factory in the North West
helped support the nuclear agreement. Urenco has secured a long-term
agreement with Slovakia’s largest electricity producer, Slovenské
elektrárne, to provide enriched uranium. The multi-million-pound deal
marks Urenco’s entry into the Slovak market following an international
tender launched by Slovenské elektrárne. It will see enriched uranium
supplies delivered through to the mid-2030s. Urenco, which has operations
in the north-west of England, will supply the enriched uranium to
Slovakia’s five nuclear reactors, which generate more than half of its
electricity. Located in Capenhurst, Urenco operates three enrichment
plants. The largest of the plants, E23, produces more than 80% of the
facility’s enrichment capacity. The UK Foreign Office highlighted that it
was the result of “sustained effort”, including “diplomatic
support” from the British Embassy in Bratislava, working alongside UK
industry.
