The year has started with threat after threat of military aggression from the US. Is it any wonder that on 27 January the Doomsday Clock was set at 85 seconds to midnight, the closest the Clock has ever been to midnight in its history?
The nuclear treaty between Russia and the US is due to expire in little over a week. Without it there will be no constraints on US or Russia’s nuclear arsenals for the first time in more than half a century. Trump has indicated he is happy to let the treaty expire.
The need for a strong anti-war movement has never been greater. We need to build Stop the War and your membership is vital to this.
Trump’s latest moves towards Iran as well as in Latin America prove he is no peace maker. His colonial project in Gaza reveal his true ambitions for the territory.
In Iran any attack would pose a risk for the whole region. Middle East history shows that once a conflict is triggered, it can spread like a wildfire, potentially destabilising the entire region in unpredictable ways.
Following the attacks on Venezuela and abduction of the country’s president, Cuba is clearly in Trump’s sight. Oil imports have been reduced to a trickle, US sanctions are crippling the country and are clearly designed for regime change. Within weeks the island state is expected to run out of fuel with devastating consequences for the population.
Global conflict is spreading. Starmer continues to support Trump and maintain the ‘special relationship’ regardless of the risks. He appears to think that aligning the UK to the gangster-in-chief is sensible foreign policy.
