Dear Friends,
New Year, New Challenges!
The UK Government are looking to scrap already flimsy protections for nature in order to push nuclear developments along both for new nuclear build and for nuclear waste “disposal” or, more accurately nuclear waste dumping.
This could well have an impact on the further “investigations” following on from the Seismic Blasting of the Irish Sea. The next investigations would be deep boreholes on Beatrix Potter’s beloved Lake District coast.
We fully support the Wildlife Trusts call urging people to write to Ed Miliband about the new report called the Nuclear Regulatory Review. This proposes taking away the protections that make legally protected sites and landscapes safe havens for wildlife, nature and people.
You can tell Ed Miliband, the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, exactly what you thinkhere - its easy to do and as this is not policy yet we can still stop the plan to scrap protections. Check out how to do this here – it just takes a moment. https://action.wildlifetrusts.org/page/183790/action/1?locale=en-GB
The photo is of Ponsonby Tarn in one of the Lake District coast’s “Area of Focus” for nuclear waste mine access leading to a mass mined out void under the Irish Sea bed to be filled with plutonium and other high level nuclear wastes. At a time when nature needs more protection than ever our nuclear obsessed Government is intent on ripping up the rule book.
Lets protect what remains of our natural world for future generations
Onwards and Upwards
Marianne
