The terrifying start to the New Year shows how important it is to build the movement for peace and a nuclear-free world.
Following months of a huge US military build-up on the coast of Caracas, including the deployment of nuclear-capable B52 long-range bombers, President Trump has launched an illegal attack on Venezuela, in direct violation of the UN Charter and undermining the 1967 nuclear-free zone Treaty of Tlatelolco.
In the Middle East, nuclear-armed Israel continues to kill Palestinians in Gaza. In Europe, the UK government has recklessly proposed to deploy troops in Ukraine – the most serious nuclear flashpoint in the world today and is continuing to push its ‘war-ready’ agenda here in Britain. In light of these dangerous developments, it is absolutely critical that we grow the opposition to war, genocide, and nuclear weapons.
By donating to CND, you will be helping us to build the pressure on the UK government and demand for the Prime Minister to halt its deadly nuclear expansion by reversing plans to purchase new, nuclear-capable F-35A jets. To call for an end to Britain’s active support in Trump’s dangerous military escalations and for the respect of international law.
CND has already begun to increase our activities on every level – thanks to our supporters – but we need to develop this even further. This year, we will be organising demonstrations at key nuclear bases, building our parliamentary lobbying campaign against the government’s nuclear expansion plans, and aiming to bring a new generation of activists into the peace movement through new forms of outreach and engagement.
Please, help us to hit the ground running this year and take on the global nuclear challenges of today on the strongest possible financial footing.
In peace,
Sophie Bolt
General Secretary
