Thank you to everyone who joined us online yesterday for our emergency briefing, Stand With Venezuela & Latin America.
The discussion took place against the backdrop of Donald Trump’s shocking escalation in the region: the illegal raid on Caracas, the killing of civilians, and the abduction of Venezuela’s elected president, Nicolás Maduro. These actions represent a flagrant assault on international law and a continuation of a long pattern of imperial aggression in Latin America and the Caribbean.
We heard powerful contributions from across the region and beyond, including from the Cuban Ambassador Ismara Vargas Walter who said “We have spent over 60 years facing down imperial arrogance…if they believe that with bombs, blockades or Cold War rehtoric they will break our unwavering solidarity with Venezuela, they prove that for all their military might they understand nothing about the dignity of Cuba.”
Our founder Jeremy Corbyn warned that “we’re in an era where international law has been torn up, where the USA decides what international law is – it’s Pax Americana for the whole planet.“

Colombian author Oscar Guardiola Rivera urged that “only if we gather together, only if we make our voices heard, only if we take action will we be able to withstand the terrible show of force we have seen in recent days.” In this spirit we’d like to remind you of the demonstration taking place tomorrow, Saturday 10, against Trump’s actions in Venezuela and Latin America.
When: Saturday 10 January
Time: 1-3pm
Where: Downing Street, SW1A

There are also demonstrations planned in Birmingham, Reading and Edinburgh. Click here to find more details.
Finally, if you haven’t already please sign the petition by Your Party, urging Keir Starmer to unequivocally condemn the US assault on Venezuelan sovereignty, demand the return of Maduro and stand up for international law.
This moment demands clarity, courage, and collective action. Thank you for standing with the people of Venezuela and Latin America.
In solidarity,
