The Rosyth dockyards in Fife have been tipped to play a major part in the construction of American nuclear-powered submarines. Defence firm Babcock, who owns the facility, announced a new contact with HII, the United States’ largest military shipbuilder. The pact will see the Scottish facility support the assembly of US Virginia-class submarines. The defence company, which is headquartered in London, has also celebrated the laying of the keel for the HMS Formidable, one of five T31 frigates to be delivered to the Royal Navy.
