Episode 11:
UNSC Resolution 2803
with Dr Brian Brivati

We’re pleased to share a new episode in our International Law in Crisis podcast series, hosted by Lara Bird-Leakey. This month, Lara is joined once again by our Executive Director, Dr Brian Brivati, to unpack the legal and political implications of UN Security Council Resolution 2803.

On Monday 17 November, the UNSC adopted Resolution 2803, authorising an International Stabilisation Force and backing the US “Comprehensive Plan to end the Conflict in Gaza”. In doing so, it also welcomed the new Board of Peace – despite serious questions over its legal grounding and remit.

In Episode 11 – UNSC Resolution 2803, Lara and Brian explore:

  • Why Resolution 2803 is so striking in its failure to reference any previous UN resolutions
  • How it appears to accept the “yellow line” reality on the ground, effectively endorsing Israeli control over 58% of Gaza
  • What it means that the Resolution nevertheless recognises Palestinians’ inalienable right to self-determination

Together, they ask what this Resolution really means for Palestinians in Gaza, for the wider prospects of justice and accountability, and for the future credibility of the UN itself.
