Submarine decommissioning and reactor removal

REMOVING the reactor from one of the laid-up nuclear submarines at Rosyth

Dockyard is a “stage too far”. Local SNP councillor Brian Goodall said
there was “no need” to cut out the most radioactive parts left in HMS
Swiftsure, which is being dismantled as part of an innovative recycling
scheme. He said there was nowhere to safely store the waste and it would
also be cheaper to not go ahead – a stance that Labour MP Graeme Downie
said was an “insult to the highly skilled team at Rosyth”.
