Divestment campaigns, led by PSC branches, are active across Britain demanding that local councils divest their pension funds from companies enabling Israeli apartheid.

Now, we’re bringing the demands of these campaigns into parliament. An amendment has been submitted to the government’s Pension Schemes Bill that would direct all pension funds to end investments that contribute to grave violations of international law.

Our research has found that Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) funds, administered by local councils, invest over £12.2 billion in companies enabling Israel’s grave violations of international law. This includes companies supplying Israel with its arsenal of weaponry to kill and maim Palestinians, and companies active in Israel’s illegal settlements based on stolen Palestinian land in the West Bank.

Local divestment campaigns are active across Britain, and they are building powerful coalitions that are putting pressure on councils to divest from companies enabling Israel’s genocide and apartheid. As a result, 23 local councils have passed a motion or issued a statement in support of divestment.  

The amendment to the Pension Schemes Bill brings the demand of our divestment campaigns into parliament. The amendment would direct pension funds not to invest in ways that aid or assist genocide, atrocities and illegal military occupation, whether in Palestine or anywhere else in the world.

We must raise the pressure on all MPs to support this amendment. Write to your MP today.

Israel can only maintain its regime of oppression because of the activity of companies around the world, which: supply it with weapons; help support its illegal settlements; and provide infrastructure used in its illegal military occupation, like IT systems used at checkpoints.

Palestinians ask us to launch divestment campaigns to end the role of companies in upholding Israel’s regime of oppression.
