Sizewell C Excavation

Sizewell C Ltd has launched procurement for a bulk excavation contract

worth up to £250m. The contract covers the excavation of more than 3.2
million cubic metres of material from the main construction area, including
made ground, alluvial deposits such as peat, and crag sand. About 3.3
million cubic metres of excavated material will be transported via a
segregated haul road to designated stockpiles or disposal areas within a
temporary construction area, Sizewell C said. It added that backfilling
material for building the foundation of the £38bn plant will begin in
cleared zones while excavation continues, enabling early construction of
Units 1 and 2. The contract also includes testing to assess material
suitability, shaping and compacting of stockpiles, and compliance
monitoring in line with the project’s quality plan. The two-year works
contract will start on 4 January 2027 and run until 8 December 2028.
