Hiroshima and Nagasaki Candle Float Lanterns arrive from Kyoso School in Hiroshima

Posted: 23rd July 2025

A huge and warm thank you to the students and staff at Kyoso School in Hiroshima for producing these carefully crafted lanterns to join our own in this year’s commemorative candle float on the River Avon in Salisbury, UK, on 6th August.  Also very many thanks to the Hiroshima Coventry Club for all their work associated with this project.  We in the Salisbury Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament so appreciate these links with you in Hiroshima.  It moves us profoundly as we mix our floating candles with your lanterns each year.  We stand together for the cause of peace and the elimination of nuclear weapons from our world.  This year marks the 80th anniversary of the dropping of the first nuclear bombs and we must redouble our efforts to ensure that such horrors are never repeated.

The lanterns were accompanied by a letter from the Mayor of Hiroshima.  We so appreciate his words.
