As the US continues to escalate military funding abroad — from funding the genocide in Gaza to pressuring NATO allies to expand defence budgets — it is more important than ever that we speak out against the reckless prioritisation of war over peace.
According to Brown University’s Costs of War project, the ongoing genocide in Gaza is being bankrolled in large part by US military aid shouldering 70% of Israel’s military costs since Oct 7, 2023. And now it is pressuring European nations through NATO to follow suit and divert more resources into militarism, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
This is why we urgently need a stronger, more organised, and more visible anti-war movement. One that confronts militarism at its roots.
The truth is that war is a business. We’re told these wars are about defending democracy or national security. But behind the rhetoric are weapons manufacturers, defence contractors, politicians, and media mouthpieces who profit every time a missile is launched, a bomb is dropped, or a conflict is prolonged.
A stronger anti-war movement is not just about stopping this or that war. It’s about exposing and dismantling the entire military industrial complex that profits from occupation and war.
