Poem for VJ Day 2025

Posted: 16th July 2025

Colin Archer of GCOMS-UK suggested you might be interested in the attached poem I wrote to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VJ Day on 15th August. Obviously, the 80th anniversaries of Hiroshima and Nagasaki fall just before, so the poem became a prophetic call to turn away from the futility of war and nuclear weapons.

Colin thought you might distribute it via your regular mailing, so that your members could read it and if appropriate recite it at any rallies or commemorations. It would not otherwise be for publishing in hard copy or online, as I am submitting it to newspapers or magazines.

The attached includes some notes about the poem. Here’s a short biog of me:
Clare Bryden is a writer and web developer based in Exeter, UK. Her interests are wide-ranging, but primarily the place of humanity within the natural world of which we are part, and the related theology and psychology of connectedness. Her poetry has recently been published in Fulcrum, Thimble Literary Magazine, Theology journal and the British Dental Journal.

If you intend to circulate it, please let me know, and include a note to groups to let me know if they use it. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks for reading.

Best wishes

Clare
