Say no to new British nukes! No nuclear jets at RAF Marham!

Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament

The announcement by the British government from the NATO summit that it will be buying 12 nuclear capable F35A fighter jets is yet another disastrous decision by the Starmer government, that makes the world more dangerous and puts the British population on the nuclear frontline.

The deal with US President Donald Trump means 12 nuclear-capable fighter jets – costing between $80 to $100 million each – will be stationed at RAF Marham, near Peterborough.

This means that Britain will be getting a whole new generation of nuclear weapons, launched from fighter jets, as well as replacing its deadly nuclear submarines.

This decision has been made without any parliamentary debate and is in breach of the nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty. As a signatory, Britain has agreed to take steps to disarm its nuclear weapons, not increase them

The millions that will be spent on these jets, and the millions more that would be needed to upgrade RAF Marham and maintain the jets, will be coming out of further cuts to public services, to our NHS and our social care system. This has nothing to do with the security of British people and everything to do with Britain fighting Trump’s global war.

With the devastating ongoing war in Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East, bringing more nuclear weapons into the situation will only increase tensions and nuclear threats.

What Keir Starmer fails to understand is how strong public opposition is to US nuclear weapons being stationed in Britain. Campaigners from Greenham Common to Lakenheath have forced the US to withdraw their nuclear weapons before, and we’ll do it again.

With the huge step-change in Britain’s nuclear weapons capability, we need to strengthen our campaigning even more. Please get involved and help us stop this disastrous nuclear expansionism.

No War on Iran – stop the nuclear dangers!

The US and Israeli illegal bombardment of Iran’s nuclear facilities breached the UN charter, international law, and the statute of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Iran’s retaliatory attacks on Israel and on the US military base in Qatar threatened an all-out war. It is now absolutely critical that the fragile ceasefire holds so that talks can resume, so a diplomatic solution to this crisis can be found. The need for a nuclear weapons-free Middle East has never been more important.

Thank you to all who have lobbied your MPs and joined the emergency protest on Monday. The impact of this devastating conflict is far-reaching. Read CND’s latest briefing that examines the grave nuclear implications of the Israel–Iran conflict and the urgent need for nuclear disarmament.
