Today, the Co-op announced it will implement the motion passed at its AGM last month by ending the sourcing of products and services from Israel.
This is a major BDS victory, and testament to the power of our movement in Britain, especially our branch activists. Help us spread the word.
Share on InstagramShare on XThe Co-op, one of the largest supermarket chains in the UK, has outlined that Israel is one of a number of “countries of concern” from which it will stop sourcing, using a phased approach which will begin immediately.
The countries are listed due to several criteria, including “consistent behaviour which would constitute community-wide human rights abuses or violations of international law.”
This decision follows Co-op members voting overwhelmingly for a motion at the Co-op’s AGM last month, proposed by members of our Halifax branch, calling on the board to “show moral courage and leadership” by taking “all Israeli products off the shelves”. Following this vote, PSC members and supporters like you sent over 40,000 emails to the Co-op’s leadership calling for the motion to be enforced.
Our collective campaigning is getting results. We must now keep up the pressure on all supermarkets to follow suit.
Earlier this year, PSC launched the Don’t Buy Apartheid campaign, calling on all individuals and businesses to boycott Israeli goods and Coca-Cola products. The next day of action will take place on Saturday 5 July – with protests at supermarkets stocking these goods across Britain.
Please put the date in your diary, we’ll send out a full list of actions next week.
Join the don’t buy apartheid day of actionThis victory is testament to the power of PSC’s campaigning. Together, we work to sever the ties of complicity linking Britain to Israel’s genocide, military occupation and apartheid against Palestinians.
We’ve still got a long way to go, but our campaigning is making a real difference. If you’re not already, please make sure to join PSC as a member.
In solidarity,
Lewis
