Stop the War Coalition

Newsletter – 13/06/25

Israel’s overnight attack makes the prospect of a catastrophic regional conflagration dangerously close.

Along with our Palestine coalition partners we are calling an emergency protest outside Downing Street tomorrow (Saturday 14 June) at 2pm. The situation is urgent. Make sure to join if you can.

The UK must not become involved in this dangerous escalation. Neither the British navy nor its bases should be used in any way to support Israel’s illegal aggression. Rather we demand the British government does all it can to de-escalate to avoid a catastrophic, possibly nuclear war.

The attacks on Iran show just how reckless Netanyahu’s government is. Israel has been given impunity to act as it chooses for too long. It is now dragging the entire world into war.

Keir Starmer’s pathetic response that these strikes are ‘concerning’ demonstrates a complete absence of moral backbone. It is beyond time for Britain to break all ties with Israel and implement a full arms embargo.

March for Palestine Saturday 21 June

Saturday 21 June is the next national demonstration, we will be marching from Russell Sq to Whitehall.

Dockers in Italy, France and Greece have refused to load ships with military equipment destined for Israel, while the Freedom Flotilla’s Madleen brought the plight of Gaza back under the spotlight of the world’s media. Today the Global March to Gaza sets off from Cairo. Over 2-3 days thousands of activists, from 80 countries around the world, will walk towards the Rafah crossing to highlight the desperate isolation of Palestinians in Gaza, calling on the world to break the Israeli siege.

We cannot sit back and leave it to others to act when a genocide is being conducted in front of our eyes.

The national marches have been the driving force behind the Palestine movement. They have kept the movement visible and energised. We must not stop now!

Gaza is starving. Another 60 Palestinians seeking food aid were shot by the IDF on Thursday, 25 of them killed. But our government refuses to act. It talks of its horror at the conditions facing Gaza yet continues to sell Israel arms, and is disgracefully training IDF soldiers here in the UK.

We ask all our supporters to get mobilising: organise transport, hold a stall in your local shopping centre, arrange leafleting sessions. Leaflets are available from the office, let us know how many you need.

Make this demonstration as big and as loud as possible.

Defend the Right to Protest

The ‘carnival of distraction’ around Kneecap keeps on travelling while Israel pursues its starvation policy in Gaza and the UK government continues to sell it arms.

We must support those who speak out.

Kneecap’s Mo Chara will be appearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 18 June, 9:30am. Stop the War is backing the picket outside the court – please join us.

Two of the leaders of the Palestine Coalition, Chris Nineham from StWC and Ben Jamal from PSChave been charged under Public Order offences for taking part in a peaceful protest against the genocide in Gaza.

The arrests, and the subsequent calling in for police interview of a number of those who were part of the flower-carrying delegation – including Kapos, Abdalla, Corbyn and McDonnell – almost certainly came as a result of political pressure on both the government and police from supporters of Israel’s pro-genocide policies.

Chris Nineham said: “This is clearly a concerted attack on the right to protest over the Israeli genocide on the people of Gaza. The police have admitted to being under political pressure and it is an attack that will inevitably be extended to others wishing to protest against government policy – as we are now seeing with government amendments to the Crime and Policing Bill.”

On 7 July we will be outside City of London Magistrates Court from 9:30 am protesting this attack on our movement and defending the right to protest.

The power of protest works – we must defend it. The state is attempting to intimidate the Palestine movement by targeting its leadership. We will not let them.

Leaflets available from the office.
