Tomorrow, Saturday 17 May, is our huge annual Nakba Day demonstration in London. Each day this week we’ve been asking you to take an action for Palestine, commemorating the 77th anniversary of the Nakba and calling for an end to Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
Today we’re asking you to take 2 key actions: Put our Nakba 77 poster in pride of place in your window and share our Nakba Day video on your social media and with your friends and family.
Put up our posterWatch and share our videoOur video features prominent British Palestinians with the central message that the Nakba never ended. Yes, it began in 1947/1948 when the state of Israel was founded with the killing of 13 000 Palestinians, the destruction of over 500 villages and towns, and the expulsion of three quarters of the population. But it did not end there. As we see now – the ethnic cleansing of Palestine is a continuing and intensifying process, not a single event.
So we must continue and intensify our solidarity with Palestinians who resist erasure, colonisation and apartheid. We must keep the pressure up on our government, institutions and corporations which aid and abet Israel’s crimes, and hold them to account for their complicity.
Put up our posterWatch and share our videoThe global visibility of solidarity with Palestinians is an important element of our struggle. Palestinians have used media with immense courage and commitment to evidence the crimes of Israel. This is why we have been able to witness what’s been called the world’s first live-streamed genocide. More than 200 journalists have been killed by Israel in Gaza since October 2023. Without this documentation and visibility, Israel would face far less opposition around the world and fewer repercussions such as at the international courts.
And in turn, we have followed this Palestinian lead to use media in our campaigning. Each video, photo, article, poster we share, each badge, T shirt and keffiyeh we wear, show that Palestinians are at the centre of our concern for justice and liberation. Each visible action chips away at the foundations of Israel’s oppression and its desire to erase or marginalise Palestinians. On the 77th anniversary of the Nakba, we proudly reassert our commitment to a Free Palestine!
