Invest in Peace not Nukes: Upcoming CND webinar

<p>The British government is continuing to ratchet up its war rhetoric. Using the 80th anniversary of the defeat of fascism in Europe, Starmer yet again promoted Britain’s nuclear weapons as the cornerstone of British security as well as the catalyst to economic growth and prosperity.</p>
<p><br>Yet communities whose economies are dominated by the nuclear weapons industry – such as Devonport in Plymouth – remain amongst the most deprived areas in Britain. </p>
<p><br>With the government expected to unveil its new Strategic Defence Review and National Security Strategy this summer, lobbying for an expansion of Britain’s nuclear weapons capability is intensifying with calls for Britain to develop so-called ‘battlefield’ nuclear weapons. </p>
<p><br>So it is critical that we ratchet up the pressure on the British government. Following our successful protest at Barrow-in-Furness against the development of the new nuclear ‘Dreadnought’ submarines, <span class=)
CND will be protesting at the Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth in Saturday 7 June. This is where the dangerous work of refitting and maintaining Britain’s nuclear fleet takes place. There have been at least 10 serious accidents involving radioactive leaks, risking the health of local residents whose homes sit right next to the Dockyard.
Ahead of this demonstration, CND is hosting a webinar on 20 May to discuss how we can increase opposition to these nuclear dangers, and pressure the government to change course and invest in peace not nukes.
