British supermarkets, including the Co-op, regularly stock Israeli products despite the knowledge that they are supporting Israel’s genocide, military occupation and apartheid against Palestinians. But we can put an end to this by pushing supermarkets to stop stocking Israeli goods.
Millions of people in Britain are members of the Co-op and are able to vote on an important motion at the Co-op’s AGM. Motion 13 calls for the Co-op to“cease all trading with Israel”.
All eligible Co-op members have received an email with instructions to vote online. Search your inbox for the subject line “Action required: It’s time to have your say”. Follow the link in that email, and vote FOR motion 13 today.
If the Co-op doesn’t have your email, or you’ve previously requested a paper copy, you’ll receive information to vote by post.
You are eligible to vote if you have a Co-op membership card and have spent £100 or more in Co-op stores in 2024 – or have products or policies with other Co-op services.
If you’re not a member, you still have an important role to play. Spread the word to your friends and networks to ensure all Co-op members vote for Motion 13.
Spread the word about the motionThe motion, submitted by a PSC member in their individual capacity as a Co-Op member, urges the board to “show moral courage and leadership” by taking “all Israeli products off the shelves.”
Palestinians ask people of conscience to boycott Israeli goods and demand their removal from the shelves, as a means of isolating Israeli apartheid and supporting their struggle for freedom.
Israeli companies, shipping fruits, vegetables and wines to supermarkets in Britain, operate farms and facilities in illegal Israeli settlements based on stolen Palestinian land. They benefit from Israel’s systematic destruction of Palestinian agriculture. By trading with these companies, supermarkets are supporting Israel’s colonisation and military occupation, and fuelling Israel’s apartheid economy. That’s why we recently launched the Don’t Buy Apartheid campaign – calling on individuals, shops and cafés to boycott Israeli produce and Coca-Cola.
If the Co-op, a major supermarket in the UK, adopted policy not to trade with Israel, this would be a big step towards recognising its profound moral and legal duty not to contribute to Israel’s crimes against Palestinians.
Co-op members have until midday on 12 May to vote online – but it’s best to vote now so you don’t forget. Find the email from the Co-Op and vote FOR motion 13 today.
