Israel has now decimated the last fully functional hospital in Gaza in what has become an open air concentration camp and a killing field. It’s unbelievable that despite the outcry from people around the world for the last 18 months, governments including ours have not done anything to stop Israel from continuing the genocide. In fact, they have been denying, minimising, downplaying and rationalising the genocide, and actually funding it by continuing to sell arms to Israel.  

The war in Gaza and the wider instability in the region as well as the war in Ukraine and the tensions building up with China has driven global military spending to a new record. Over the last year, European defence spending jumped by 11.7% in real terms to reach 457 billion dollars, with 2024 marking the tenth consecutive year of growth. Here in the UK, Starmer has cruelly pledged to slash welfare benefits for disabled people to fund the increase in defence spending.

There is only one way to fight back against all of this – and that is to organise and mobilise on a scale like never before. Stop the War has, is and will continue to build the antiwar movement but we need your help to do it. Islington Stop the War is organising a really important public meeting on Wed 30th April to address the cruel cuts made by Starmer’s Labour to fund the increase in defence spending.
