Our Welfare not Warfare campaign was launched this week at a rally in central London. After Labour’s announcements of welfare cuts and massive boosts to military spending it’s time for action.

We must stand up to this increasing militarism and against the callous attack on the poor and disabled. We have a dedicate petition into your college or place of work.

  • Encourage your TU to pass our Welfare not Warfare resolution.
  • Build and join the Anti-Austerity protest on 7 June.
  • At Tuesday’s rally we heard how disability benefit cuts will lead to people being denied access to some of the most basic needs – help with dressing, eating, making a cup of tea – all to provide money for weapons of war. With heart wrenching stories from disability rights campaigner, Paula Peters(DPAC) and disabled activist and comedian, Francesca Martinez it was impossible not to be appalled by Labour’s move to militarism. Clearly people are likely to die as a result.

The Labour government has abandoned any sense of decency. As Lindsey German said, Starmer’s Labour is contending to be the worst Labour government ever, its mantra of ‘cut, cut, cut’ has not only led to swathing attacks on the poor, disabled and sick, but has also led it to ditch its green economic policies in favour of khaki ones. Regardless that Britain already out spends all NATO countries on defence, except the US – a whopping £10 billion more than France – by the end of this parliament Labour has committed to spend an additional £17.3 billion per year.
