Dr Doug Parr, policy director and chief scientist at Greenpeace UK, also paid tribute to Prescott’s environmental campaigning efforts, including an occasion when he worked with the green group to protest against the UK’s nuclear waste disposal practices. “Greenpeace had some run-ins with the future UK Deputy Prime but he did great work,” Parr wrote on Bluesky yesterday, as he posted an old photo showing Prescott “joining a Greenpeace campaign over 40 years ago, handing in a letter to then-Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher protesting the continued UK dumping of nuclear waste at sea”.
