Major escalations in Ukraine war

This week has seen major escalations in the Ukraine war as President Biden gave permission for Ukraine to use US-made missiles to attack Russia. What could possibly go wrong?

As Lindsey German said, “Biden looks like he intends to end his failed presidency with a bang. The danger is that he will take a lot of people with him.”

Immediately following the use of US-made Tactical Missile Systemsmissiles to attack targets inside Russian territory, UK Storm Shadow missiles were fired by Ukraine into Russia. Where US missiles go, British missiles are not far behind.

Stop the War has condemned the firing of UK & US missiles into Russian territory. This action clearly risks igniting an all-out war between Western powers and Russia. Russia has now retaliated firing Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles into Ukraine. Luckily without nuclear warheads, but with the lowering of the nuclear threshold by Russia the possibility of a future nuclear retaliation is very real.

Starmer’s action was conducted with no democratic oversight, with no vote or discussion in parliament. The price we pay for Starmer’s blind support for the Ukraine war is yet to be seen, but the government has already begun preparing for acts of sabotage against critical infrastructure, such as power stations.

The US has shut its embassy in Kyiv and issued warnings to its citizens in the region. Italy, Spain and Greece followed suit.

Ukrainians themselves have had enough of this war, according to a recent opinion poll over half of the population want to see the war end as soon as possible. In every region in the country fewer than 50% now support the war continuing.

Stop the War has been calling for deescalation and peace talks for almost three years. Over 1000 days into a war that has already cost the lives of 12,162 civilians, 659 of them children, and which has injured many more, it is critical Western powers pull back from the brink, before it is too late.

Free Palestine – Hands off Lebanon

Workplace Day of Action & National Demo

The Workplace Day of Action is less than a week away, on Thursday 28 November. Let us know what your plans for the day are and don’t forget to tell the world what your are doing by using the #Workplaces4Palestine. You can read here about some of the wide-ranging workplace action taking place around the country.

The day is backed by the TUC who have put out a call for action to all their members. Suggested activities include simple solidarity acts – such as wearing a Palestine badge or scarf to work, a bake sale, a two minute silence, or a lunchtime walkout and rally. Other ideas can be found here.

If you would like to put a poster in your window you can download one here. Our downloadable posters include Stop Arming IsraelGaza: Stop the Massacre and
The situation in Gaza continues to be unimaginably horrific. And in the West Bank children are being killed at unprecedented rate with huge rises in attacks by Israeli settlers and soldiers. ICC arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant are long overdue.

Trump’s election was met with cheers by right-wing Israeli settlers. His nomination of Mike Huckabee as the next US ambassador to Israel, tells us all we need to know about Trump’s view – Huckabee is a Christian-Zionist, he has repeatedly spoken of his strong support for illegal settlements in the West Bank claiming ”the Jews have a God-given right to reclaim land given to their ancestors.”

The UK must comply with the ICC, stop all arms sales to Israel, anything less continues the UK’s complicity in genocide.

The genocide in Gaza, the relentless persecution of Palestinians in the West Bank, and the increasingly precarious state of the Middle East are all reasons why we call on our supporters to join us at the next national demonstration on 30 November. We will be marching from Park Lane to Whitehall. Book your travel now!

If you are able to help StW on the day please email us.
