Yesterday the International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor, Karim A.A. Khan KC, applied for a series of arrest warrants to be issued including for the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, and Yoav Gallant, the Minister of Defence. This seismic decision carries significant implications for the British government, which must act now to end its complicity in Israel’s criminal attacks on Palestinians.

Israel’s leaders stand accused of intentionally targeting Palestinian civilians as well as systematically depriving them of their essential needs, including food and medicine. Israel’s ongoing attacks on Gaza have devastated the health care system. More than 2 million Palestinians are now facing an acute shortage of medical care and vital supplies, alongside the prospect of famine.

This Wednesday, 22 May, we will be holding the third of our online Trade Union Solidarity Webinars. This session will focus on health workers. We will hear from Palestinian and British trade unionists who will talk about the impact of Israel’s genocidal onslaught on Palestinian health workers in Gaza, and the concrete actions that trade unionists can take to extend our solidarity work.

The scale of Israel’s onslaught against the Palestine people in recent months has highlighted the need to build strong trade union links with Palestinian workers in key sectors that have been particularly affected by the attacks. Palestinian trade unions are at the forefront of their people’s struggle. They have called upon workers, the trade union movement here, and all people of conscience to take action. They have asked that we push our government to demand a ceasefire and put an end to the complicity of our institutions in Israel’s war crimes.
