Abingdon Peace Group Newsletter

Posted: 9th February 2023

Dear friends,

Please find attached the first newsletter created by our collective – hope you like it! If you think you could do better, or would like to be part of the team, please step up!

We are excited about our meeting on 21st Feb on Mayors for Peace – we have invited the mayors of all our twin towns as well as our current mayor, and also Duncan Brown, who was the mayor of Abingdon when the Town Council signed up to the Mayors for Peace pledge in 2011. So far we have had a positive response from the Mayor of Sint Niklaas who intends to join the Zoom meeting. Let’s hope some others join us too! Do please try to be with us!

A poster is attached in case you have somewhere to put it – a noticeboard at church or school? a strategic window or gatepost? If you would like a printed copy please let us know.

Other excitements in the newsletter include our review of the year 2022, some online events on 15/16 Feb to mark 20 years since the Feb 15th protests against war in Iraq, and a Stop the War/ CND demo on Saturday 25th Feb in London called “Peace Talks Now – Stop the War in Ukraine”

Oh, and please “Save The Date” of Friday 21st April for a huge demonstration at Westminster called by Extinction Rebellion and supported by XR Peace. There will be coaches from Oxford and almost certainly from Abingdon too. This is our chance to make the clear links between War and Climate Change. Be there!

See you on Tuesday 21st?
