Uncertainty over when Australia’s nuclear submarines will be built

The Morrison government has announced a major upgrade to Australia’s fleet of Collins class submarines to extend their operational life. Spending almost $400 million on the six diesel electric submarines comes amid uncertainty about when their nuclear replacements will be built and ready for service, along with a hefty bill for the cancelled French contract.
