* Nuclear disarmament activists sit-in at U.S. Mission to U.N.
------------
Eleven nuclear abolition activists were arrested on August 2 while blocking the two doors to the U.S. Mission to the United Nations. The nonviolent sit-in occurred on the second day of the U.N.’s month-long Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty Review Conference. The group’s goal was to disrupt “nuclear diplomacy” as usual and demand that the U.S. and other nuclear nations get rid of their nuclear weapons.

Actions included an Eat the Rich protest, Mobile Unwelcoming Teams, marking walls with graffiti and washable “blood”, a topless welcome as delegates entered the convention center, several blockades and more. Eleven arrests were made during the week.

------------
On June 13, three people from the Peace Pirates affinity group locked themselves together in the roundabout road blocking the entrance to the Royal Naval Armaments Depot (RNAD) Coulport in Scotland. They were arrested after the locks were cut by police. A couple of days later, on June 15, three women poured fake blood on themselves and lay in the roundabout. Ros McEwan chose not to leave when warned to do so by police, and was arrested.

Coulport is the storage and loading facility for the United Kingdom’s Trident nuclear warheads.
