Corbyn said 'pouring arms in isn’t going to bring about a solution, it’s only going to prolong and exaggerate this war'

Last week, our Vice President and founder member, Jeremy Corbyn, was once again attacked by the media and the Labour leadership for his comments on the war in Ukraine. Corbyn said ‘pouring arms in isn’t going to bring about a solution, it’s only going to prolong and exaggerate this war’ – and he’s right.

The war in Ukraine has been going on for almost 6 months, with tens of thousands of lives lost. There appears to be no end in sight to the suffering.

From the beginning of the Russian invasion, we at Stop the War have condemned Russia’s actions and have appealed for an immediate ceasefire. We have consistently called for peace negotiations.
But our government seems only to be interested in profiting from this war and using it as an opportunity to prove itself as the US’s most loyal ally. Instead of encouraging peace talks, the Western powers continue to supply unprecedented levels of military aid to Ukraine which is fueling tensions and deepening the crisis.

As we have seen in the case of Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya and Yemen, the war in Ukraine could go on for many years and even turn nuclear if world leaders don’t initiate negotiations. The failure to do so will only prolong the destruction in Ukraine.
We will continue to call for peace and negotiations over the war in Ukraine regardless of media or political attacks on us or our members.

We need a serious movement to campaign against war and militarism – Stop the War is that movement. Please help sustain our work against the UK government’s war policies by making a monthly donation and becoming a member.
