The Save the Severn Coalition is an alliance of scientists, experts, individuals and organisations who are very concerned about the long-term damage that will be caused to the Severn Estuary by Hinkley C power station. The coalition have set up a not-for-profit company in order to fundraise and are represented by leading lawyers, Leigh Day.

There are a number of serious environmental issues related to Hinkley C that are causing us concern, particularly:

  • The efforts being made by EDF to back-out of the licence condition to fit an effective fish deterrent at the vast sea water intakes.
  • The ongoing dredging of contaminated mud, silt and sand which is then dumped in shallow estuary water.

The judicial review argues that the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) does not have the legal power to vary an existing licence to allow dumping. This matters, because if EDF had been required to apply for a new licence, then there would have been greater public scrutiny. The legal case also alleges that the MMO failed to properly assess the impact on certain protected species and breached rules about water quality.

The Save the Severn Estuary Campaign needs a final push to achieve the goal of £10,000 by November 6th

Over £6,700 is already pledged.  Your card will only be charged if the target is reached.

Best wishes and thank you for your support.
