Gensuikyo: Call for Actions towards TPNW Review Conference
Call for actions towards TPNW Review Conference
Dear friends,
Yesterday we sent out our thanks letter for your support and participation in 2026 World Conference against A and H Bombs (August 2-9 in Hiroshima & Nagasaki), the “Declaration of International Meeting” and “Letter from Nagasaki to all Governments of the World”.
We call for your actions towards the first Review Conference of the TPNW (November 30 to December 4) to urge your government to join the Treaty.
Together with 70 overseas delegates participating in the World Conference, we confirmed that even now, 81 years after the atomic bombings, it remains critically important to disseminate the real damage of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the testimonies of the Hibakusha conveying the devastating humanitarian consequences of the use of nuclear weapons. Equally important is a coordinated global campaign in which people in each country work to urge their respective governments to join the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW).
One concrete proposal was made by Pierre Villard of the French Peace Movement:
Nov. 30 “Empty Chair” Peace Wave:
This idea is to organize a symbolic action worldwide, placing an empty chair on Nov. 30, the first day of the Review Conference. Placing an empty chair in front of a parliament or embassy means condemning the government for not joining the TPNW or not attending the Review Conference.
If this action is organized at one same time in each country on the same day, it will go around the globe like “Peace Wave”.
We Japanese movement welcome this proposal and are now planning to take this action in front of the national parliament on Nov. 30. We think that it will be the final-stage action. We will also plan a series of actions for 3 months from September towards the Review Conference, such as the 6th/9th signature collection street action, September 26 Nuclear Abolition Day action, Submission of signatures to the Japanese government, etc.
We, the Japanese movement, will do our utmost to make the Japanese government join the TPNW towards the RevCon. Please make a plan of actions and let me know them. If you have ideas/opinions about joint actions, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Yayoi Tsuchida
International Secretary, Organizing Committee of the World Conference
