The longlist, announced today, features 13 remarkable books showcasing that all the best stories are true.

 Anand Gopal’s books and journalism have exposed the horrors of war in the Middle East. He is one of the few Western journalists to have embedded with the Taliban, and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2025, for his reporting on a Syrian open-air prison. His book No Good Men Among the Living was a finalist for the National Book Award. His writing is unparalleled in finding the beauty of human stories within such desperate situations.
