International Physicians for the prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) World Congress

Event Date: 27th April 2023
Location: Internet

As you may know, Medact is the UK-affiliate for the International Physicians for the prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) – a non-partisan global federation of medical organisations dedicated to research, education, and advocacy relevant to the prevention of nuclear war.

Members of the Nuclear Weapons group recently attended IPPNW’s European Meeting, and are greatly looking forward to the upcoming IPPNW World Congress in Mombasa, Kenya, April 27th–29th. This will be IPPNW’s first African World Congress, and will be a hybrid event with access to many sessions virtually!

Aptly, the congress will focus on ‘Disarmament, Development and Health’, with sessions highlighting links between the health consequences of the climate crisis and nuclear weapons, especially as they relate to Africa, and within the context of other world events.

Plenary and workshop topics will include the humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons, nuclear famine, nuclear brinkmanship during war, climate and conflict, energy choices, and the Treaty to Prohibit Nuclear Weapons.

Make sure to register and join IPPNW for a fantastic and timely program, with a range of brilliant African and international speakers. And please get in touch if you’re interested in attending the conference in-person in Mombasa but would require funding to do so!

In solidarity,
