Demonstration, at Lakenheath, against the US/NATO nuclear B61 nuclear weapons and the F35s that are based there

Event Date: 19th November 2022
Location: 'RAF' Lakenheath, Main Gate.

Hello CND groups.
It was good to see many of you at our AGM and policy conference on Saturday, we’ve adopted a great set of policies to guide our work in the year ahead. And don’t forget that the second part of our annual conference will be taking place in Yorkshire this Sunday - there’s still time to register.

Protest at RAF Lakenheath: new date set
As you know, we had to cancel our planned demonstration at RAF Lakenheath last month due to a train strike. We’ve now set a new date in conjunction with Norwich CND – so we hope to see you in Suffolk on Saturday, 19th November to protest against US nukes coming to Britain.

More information about the campaign

Please consider organising transport to the demonstration – CND will contribute £200 towards any coach booking and £100 towards a minibus. You can also get in touch to request flyers and posters to promote the event. And of course, we would be grateful if you could promote the event in your networks and on any social media accounts, using this link (which will be updated as more transport options are arranged).

No Nuclear War action
I’m sure you share our concern at the increasing risk of nuclear war, which threatens us all. There is no way to be prepared for a nuclear attack: we have to stop it happening.

That’s why CND has this week launched a new action for our supporters to contact their MPs, urging them to help prevent a nuclear war. Please share the link with your contacts. Your group may wish to present a letter to your local MP in person. Contact CND’s Parliamentary Officer, Rachel, for any support or to share any updates from your MP - [email protected].

You can also get No Nuclear War posters for use on your stalls and events.

Thank you to all of you who are campaigning tirelessly for peace in your communities. Please let us know if we can ever support any actions or initiatives.

Very best wishes,
Sara

TP to Lakenheath?

Any TP groups up for supporting the demo at Lakenheath. Any one up for a blockade there at same time …... if so please let me know. Love Angie.

The USAF F35-A jet fighters, which are now based at ‘RAF’ Lakenheath, in Suffolk, England, and are designed to deliver the new B61 Mod 12, first-strike, nuclear, ‘bunker-busting’, satellite-guided, missiles to targets in Russia, burn, at least, 22 gallons of jet fuel per minute of flight-time, even when flying in their least fuel-intensive mode. They must burn much more than 22 gallons per minute when flying at twice the speed of sound, fifty feet above the ground, (with the pilots not looking where they are going because of wearing special helmets, with visors costing $400,000 apiece) to deliver a 50 kiloton nuclear first strike on an underground bunker in Russia.

The F35s are also designed to deliver ‘wind-corrected’ cluster bombs, which are also stored at ‘RAF’ Lakenheath. Britain have signed and ratified the cluster munitions convention, which outlaws cluster bombs. The US have not signed the convention.

Militarism is a major cause of climate change. Climate change didn’t cause the militarism.

“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies,in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children.”
Dwight D. Eisenhower

McSorley explained that, “The taproot of violence in our society today is our intention to use nuclear weapons. Once we have agreed to that, all other evil is minor in comparison. Until we squarely face the question of our consent to use nuclear weapons, any hope of large scale improvement of public morality is doomed to failure.”
