Beyond Missile Defence & Space Weapons

Event Date: 18th January 2022
Location: Internet 16:00

Happy New Year to those of you who have celebrated it!

As you will know by now, the 10th NPT Review Conference scheduled for January this year has been postponed indefinitely, with a possibility that it could be rescheduled for August this year.

Abolition 2000 Working Groups and member organizations have, nevertheless, been working on a number of side events to accompany this RevCon. Some of them have been cancelled, but some remain on the schedule.

We are therefore delighted to invite you to participate in a side event titled Beyond Missile Defence & Space Weapons. Please see below for more information and to register for it.

With very best wishes,
The Coordinating Committee

Time: 11:00 New York, 16:00 London, 17:00 Paris, 19:00 Moscow, 00:00 Beijing, 01:00 Tokyo

In July 2002, the US unilaterally withdrew from the Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty and since then, the world has experienced a global proliferation of missiles and missile defence systems. In 2016, the International Network of Engineers and Scientists for Global Responsibility (INES) organised an international working group to study new developments in missile defence and space weapons and their adverse impact on strategic stability, updating the “Beyond Missile Defense” report from 2002 produced by INESAP.

This webinar will examine the recommendations of this new report and features a Q & A session with some of the authors.

  • Dave Webb, United Kingdom, Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament
  • Subrata Ghoshroy, India, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  • Jürgen Scheffran, Germany, University of Hamburg, INES
