Who decides what we see online – and what we don’t?
Over the past two years, concern has grown about the way content relating to Palestine is treated on major social media platforms. Posts have been removed, accounts suspended, and users have reported seeing the reach and visibility of their content dramatically reduced.
For our next Britain Palestine Project webinar, we’ll be asking: What role do social media companies play in shaping public understanding of Palestine? What does this mean for freedom of expression? And what happens when someone decides to build an alternative?
We’ll be joined by Issam Hijazi, the Palestinian-Jordanian-Australian founder of UpScrolled, an independent social media platform built around a simple principle:
Social media should serve people, not silence them.
Having witnessed what he describes as the digital erasure of Palestinian voices, Issam decided to build an alternative himself – a platform designed to allow people to share freely, connect safely and build community. Today, UpScrolled is used by millions of people around the world.
Join us for a fascinating conversation about Palestine, free speech, censorship, algorithms, Big Tech and whether a different kind of social media is possible.
Tuesday 25th August | 3:00pm UK time | Online | Free
We hope you can join us, and please do forward this invitation to anyone who may be interested.
Warm wishes,
