Views from the USA

Dear Peace Group supporters and friends,

As you will see from the attached poster, on Tuesday 17th February at 8pm (3pm in Abingdon, Virginia!) we are excited to be planning a zoom call with our friends from Virginia in Eastern USA: APEC, Appalachian Peace Education Center in Abingdon, Virginia, and their friends in Take Action Southwest Virginia (affiliated with Indivisible). This more recently-formed group called a demonstration in Bristol (just down the road from Abingdon) on Sunday January 18th calling people to “voice your Trump grievances”. We look forward to hearing how it went, and what the residents of Abingdon Virginia make of Trump, of ICE and of the current uprising of public opinion in the US against state totalitarianism.

We stand in solidarity with our counterparts in the US and we watch carefully, as we need to be prepared to do the same things here to safeguard our democracy. What can we learn from them?
