Event Date: 25th January 2026
Location: In a (previously nuclear?) shelter at Upper Heyford airbase, 10am - 12noon
On Sunday 25th January 10am – 12noon, Holocaust Memorial Day will be marked in a (previously nuclear?) shelter at Upper Heyford airbase. See details below and attached.
The owners of the former Cold War airbase at Upper Heyford (the only place in the UK, and probably Europe, where a major Cold War airbase can be experienced as an entity) have confirmed that the site will be made available on Sunday 25th January 2026 for the Path of MADness. I attach their invitation from which you will see their requirements of a payment of £7.50 and names and car registrations. PoM2026 will start at the Baton Hotel car park, Heyford Park, 455 Camp Rd, Upper Heyford, Bicester OX25 5HD (also accessible by X5 and 25 bus) leaving at 10.01am by minibus, with the memorial service taking place in a Hardened Aircraft Shelter (HAS) within the Quick Reaction Alert Area at the heart of the flying field.
The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) 2026 is ‘Bridging Generations’ a reminder that the responsibility of remembrance doesn’t end with the survivors – it lives on through their children, their grandchildren and through all of us. Some items will be those recited at PoM every year, but the event will rely heavily on contributions from participants about the cold war and nuclear holocaust (MAD), the Shoah and the Nakba, and other genocides and crimes against humanity, including ecocide and climate breakdown (MAD). Contributions in song or verse would be especially welcome. The whole event will take up to 2 hours and the event will be in an unheated building. The owners are not allowing use of the runway. I will organise the money. This is an open invitation so please circulate.
My telephone will be 07949159430.
Please let me know by Friday 16th January 2026 if you would like to take part (with names and car registrations).
Kind regards
Daniel
