The US Government recently announced its decision to pursue a space-based missile defence system. Although space-based strategic missile defence is not a new idea, the different geopolitical, economic and technological context in which this initiative is developing has raised new questions regarding the possible impact of the system on nuclear strategic stability.
Our first webinar set the scene with an overview of the current status of the ‘Golden Dome for America’ (GDA), covering the executive order and the budgetary process.
The second session addressed the technical realities of the GDA, detailing possible architectures and capabilities including sensors and constellations, and ballistic and hypersonic missile defence.
This third session will dive into the possible impact of the GDA on nuclear strategic stability, featuring experts on Chinese and Russian perspectives.
Panellists
• Dr. Tong Zhao (Senior Fellow, Carnegie China, Nuclear Policy Program)
